CHANGING OF DATES HAWKE CUP FIXTURE . “Personally I would rather sacrifice the'Hawke Cup than have continual quarrelling over dates. We have decided to ifiay Poverty Bay on the dates it nominated, under protest. As the result of that decision we will have to field a considerably weakened team.” These were the remarks of the chairman of the Waikato Cricket Association, Mr. C. G. Hunt, at a recent meeting of the management committee of the association when it was decided to play Poverty Bay, in the challenge for the Hawke Cup, in Hamilton on January 1,2, and 3, instead of on Waikato's suggested dates, December 30, January 1 and 2. It was stated that at one stage Poverty Bay had threatened to withdraw its team from the provincial tournament. Mr. Hunt explained that the holders of the trophy had to obtain special leave for five matches in the season and the challengers only one. Poverty Bay could not obtain leave for four of its players, but that was liable to happen to any team and could not be avoided. “The secretary, committee, and myself have spent a good deal of time settling these disputes and are considering taking drastic steps if they continue," said Mr. Hunt,
