FINAL GALLOPS AWAPUNI TRIALS THE BUZZER IMPRESSES SIX BY DU MAURIER (Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ this day. The final trials for the Manawatu meeting were held at Awapuni yesterday. Nearly all galloping was on the plough, not a great deal of use being made of the course proper on account of the hard going there, where the flags were 35ft. out. The most impressive efforts were those of The Buzzer, Colonel Bogey, Malik Kafur, Hunting Lance, Du Maurier and Little Dorrit. Hunting Lore and a companion covered seven on the plough in 1.34 3-5. Snigger and La Bru did five on the plough in 1.6 3-5. Pas de Cheval took 1.7 for five. High Peer was always going well over a mile in 1.49? on the plough. King’s March slipped over three furlongs in 39sec. on the course proper. The highlight of activities was an excellent gallop by the ’ two Cup horses, The Buzzer and Colonel Bogey, who were accompanied by Thrasos. Though receiving a fair measure of weight from Colonel Bogey, The Buzzer made the pace, though the others joined him turning for home. He came away again to finish the mile on the plough in 1.46.?, which was good going. Colonel Bogey was finishing on at the end, but Thrasos was five lengths behind. Flammarion was allowed to run a comfortable mile in 1.551, the last six taking 1.25. Classform and Caution did seven furlongs in 1.35, the last six taking 1.22. Raeburn and Silvanus got to the end of the seven on the course proper in the good time of 1.32?. Tidewaiter and Aurora’s Star encompassed a mile on the plough in 1.49. Earl Colossus and Old Bill ran the last six or seven furlongs on the course proper in 1.211. On the same track Guiding Light and Fauvette covered five furlongs in 1.7.
Du Maurier worked over a round on the plough and then speeded up at the seven furlongs post, and same home over the last six in 1.20 3-5. Little Dorrit came home full of running at the end of a very smart half-mile on the course proper in 52 sec. Brazil finished in front of Sudan at the end of seven furlongs on the plough in 1.35. Old Surrey ran the last seven furlongs on -the plough in 1.22 4-5.
