PERSONALS

Mr. George Murch, town clerk in Wanganui, retires to-day after 34 years’ service. He is being succeeded by Mr. C. R. White, who has been an assistant in the Wanganui City Council office since 1913.

The Rev. C. E. Hyde, vicar of Wairoa, who is a chaplain with the Special New Zealand Force, will be in Wairoa during the Christmas holidays and wiil take the services there. The Rev. J. Talbot, who is acting vicar in charge in Wairoa during Mr. Hyde’s absence on active service, is spending Christmas in Gisborne.

Congratulations to Mr. A. G. Hultquist, M.P., on -his enlistment were extended by the Waiapu County Council, when advice was -received from Mr. Hultquist that Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., would attend to that portion of the Bay of Plenty electorate in the meantime. The council endorsed Mr. Hultquist’s action in making arrangements for his absence. —Special.
