CHRISTMAS BONUS
PAY FOR UNEMPLOYED ADVICE IN GISBORNE AMOUNTS UP TO £2 DUE AFTER NEW YEAR Advice that a Christmas bonus will be paid to eligible unemployment beneficiaries was received by Mr. T. A. N. Johnson, registrar of the Social Security Department, Gisborne, today. Payments will be made to both male and female beneficiaries at the rate of £2 for married persons, 20s for single persons, and 10s for those undar 20 years of age.
To qualify for the bonus a person must have been in receipt of benefit during the week ended December 16 and for four weeks during the preceding six weeks. If no benefit was received during the week ended December 16, persons will qualify if they are eligible for benefit during the weeks ended December 23 or 30 and provided they received payments during four of the preceding six weeks.
The date of the payment in Gisborne has been fixed for January 3. Benefit payments were made this week for three weeks up to January 6. and the receipt of the bonus on January 3 will be at a time when the unemployment beneficiaries will not be receiving any other money.
Heavy payments were made by the Social Security Department this week. Age benefit payments were made on Wednesday, three days earlier than usual, and with these and the three weeks’' unemployment moneys going out the staff was kept very busy.
