TRAWLER RETURNS
NEW ENGINE INSTALLED A Gisborne fishing craft, the motor trawler Ellas, arrived al 12.45 a.m.. 4i days out from Auckland, after an absence of /nearly three months, during which she was fitted out with a new engine. As the Ellas lay alongside the wharf in Gisborne this morning there was little outward evidence of improvements costing £I2OO effected during her long stay at the northern port. Before the installation of the new machinery the hull of the launch was strengthened and a substantial hardwood keel fitted. The deck house was raised slightly to give full standing space, in the engine-room. It is claimed that the Ellas is the - most up-to-date fishing launch in New Zealand, both as far as her engine is concerned and her equipment. Powered by a three-cylinder 66 h.p. Diesel engine, the boat has a top speed of 10 knots. The tedious work of polishing brass has been overcome by. the extensive use of chromium plating for engine-room and ivheelhouse fittings. Messrs. A. G. Highnm, jun., and E. Ericksen accompanied Mr. Kerr on the trip from Auckland and the launch made a substantial catch of fish on tlie way.
