MINER FATALLY HURT

STRONGMAN PIT TRAGEDY Crushed by a fall of coal in the new Strongman State colliery at the Nine Miie last week, a miner, Gnisardo Pavan, aged 28, single, of Walker street, Runanga, died of his injuries in the Grey Hospital on Sunday. When the accident occurred, Mr. Pavan, who was working at the coal face, iai his legs pinned .by a- sudden fall of about two tons of coal. He suffered a severe crushing and shock. It was found necessary to amputate his right leg, but this proved of no avail, and his condition became gradually more serious until he died.

Mr. Pavan was a native of Arzene, Italy, and had been a resident of the Runanga district for 10 years.
