The Helsinki correspondent of The Times reports that small detachments of Finns are reported to have penetrated from 30 to 40 miles into Russian territory in the region of Lake Kainta. It is stated that they are playing havoc with the Soviet lines of communication. A Stockholm message states that the Finns are reported to have routed 17,000 Russians east of Suomussalmi. The Russians bombed Wiipuri. A communique issued in Moscow states that the Russians occupied Pitkajarvi, 55 miles south-west of Petsamo. Warships shelled the 'Bjorko batteries. planes to-day flew over the city of Helsinki, but no bombs were dropped.
