AMERICAN MACHINES ORDERS BY ALLIES * (Reed. Dec. 18, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 16. , The latest British and French orders for aeroplanes will increase the European orders of the last 18 months to 3800, valued at over £88,750,000.The aviation writer of the New York Times declares that the orders given for military supplies by the British and French commissions are relatively small. Some are educational, but large contracts may be expected later, probably increasing the total war contracts to £250,000,000 in the next six months. The writer estimates • that the total aeroplane orders are:— 'France. —‘850 Curtiss pursuit, 370 Douglas bombers, 200 N.A. trainers, 245 Martin bombers, and 40 Voight dive bombers. Britain.—l2oo N.A. trainers, 450 Lockheed bombers, and an unspecified number of consolidated flying boats. Canada.—43o N.A. trainers, 15 Lockheed bombers, and 15 Douglas bombers. 1 Australia.—‘loo Lockheeds. Sweden.—ll 34 pursuit planes. (Belgium.—4o pursuit planes. The writer. adds that exporters of general supplies and foodstuffs are at present disappointed at the small orders.
