Mr. A. W. Thompson, headmaster of the Terrace End School, Palmerston North, is retiring from the position of acting-inspector of schools in the 'Wanganui Education Board's district at the end of the year. Major C. V. Sugden, N.Z.S.C., of Christchurch, whose appointment as second in command of the 27th Ma-chine-gim Battalion, First Echelon, Special Force, was announced last week, has been acting for some weeks as camp commandant at Waiouru.
Mr. A. Coleman, S.M., who has been acting as relieving magistrate in Gisborne for the past few weeks, will complete his duties in the Gisborne Court circuit to-morrow and is expected to leave for Wellington on Wednesday. He will spend the Christmas vacation in Wanganui. Mr. A. L. Lewis, recently appointed airport manager for Pan American Airways at Auckland, has arrived from Noumea. He will take the place of Mr. D. Walker, who has been transferred to Honolulu. Mr. Lewis was stationed in Auckland two years ago. Mr. F. A. Low’e, who has been postmaster at Dannevirke for the past two years, is, at his own request, retiring on superannuation on December 31 after 40 years’ service with the department. He was formerly postmaster in Wairoa.
