OIL TANK EXPLOSION

NEWCASTLE TRAGEDY MAN HURLED lOOFT (Reed. Dee. 18, !) a.m.) S7DNEY, Dec. 17. When an oil tank at the Commonwealth Oil Refineries depot at Newcastle burst into flames a man named M. N. Nathan was flung 100 ft. and killed. The fire occurred in a tank containing 150,000 gallons of power kerosene. A tanker at an adjacent wharf was removed from its berth. Residents nearby were warned to leave their homes.

It is estimated that 50.000 gallons were left in the tank when the fire, which burned for five hours was subdued.
