TREATED AS RUBBISH

BICYCLES ON FOOTPATHS WAIROA COUNCIL MOVE (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. Bicycles found lying in disorder about the footpaths in the Borough of Wairoa in future are to be treated as rubbish, according to a decision reached at a meeting of the Borough Council. This was done on the suggestion of the Mayor, Mr. H. L. Marker, who stated that the reason for it was to endeavour to educate the people to use the bicycle stands which were provided and to put a stop to the inconvenience which was caused through people leaving their machines lying on the footpath. His suggestion was that bicycles left except in the proper manner should be treated as rubbish and collected in a council lorry and taken to the borough yards. This, he said, was done in other places and he did not think it would' be necessary to keep the practice up for long here to bring the people to a proper sense of what was required.

A motion to the effect that the practice be adopted in Wairoa and that the inspector be instructed to put it into effect as soon as possible, was moved by the Mayor, seconded by Cr. J. B. Cook, and carried. “It has the desired effect in other places,” said the Mayor, “and 1 think it will here.”
