ORPHANAGE OPENED

PROTESTANT CHILDREN ANONYMOUS BENEFACTOR (Par Pross Association.) WHANGAREI, this day. An orphanage for Protestant children in Northland was officially opened yesterday afternoon, thus marking the culntination of an effort on the part of a gentleman who wishes to remain anonymous. Some years ago he bought 20 acres adjacent to Whangarei and then gave £IO,OOO as ‘an endowment for the maintenance of an orphanage provided the building was erected free of debt. As the public response was very tardy, he subsidised £ for £ public subscriptions up to £OOO. Thik was raised mainly through the children’s page in the Northern Advocate. A laches’ committee completed the furnishings. The building is modern in every respect and the site is ideal.
