TEACHING OF LATIN

DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOLS WAIROA PROPOSAL (Special to the Herald.) NAPIER, this day. "I would like to see Latin considerably reduced in our district high schools,” commented Mr. J. Henry, senior inspector of schools, at the Hawke’s Bay Education Board meeting yesterday. He suggested that new pupils in the district high schools should be asked for what reason the pupils were taking Latin. He expressed the opinion that the parents were sympathetic with Latin and that was the reason for the majority of the pupils taking the course. Mr. C. R. StSansbury said lha he believed in it, not from its utility, but because it was an exact language. If they could get a commercial course it would be much better for the Wairon School. The matter was referred to the senior inspector for consideration.
