Boroug’h Water Supply
Sir,—la Wednesday's paper there is a report by the borough engineer on the filtration of water from the Waipaoa River. He points to deterioration of the present pipe-line, and says that whilst repairs were made the town was kept supplied with water from Taumata Hill reservoir. As a resident of Mangapapa, may I point out that there is an unlimited supply of excellent water flowing from the bottom of Taumata Hill, immediately under the reservoir? This source, I understand, was pointed out to some of the borough councillors by Mr. J. C. Field.
In the event of damage to the present pipe-line, the reservoir could be kept supplied with naturallyfiltered cold water of good quality. It could be pumped directly into the reservoir .with small cost and be free from any contamina+ion —very different from warm chlorinated riverwater. I have recently put down a bore on this line with fine results. When I struck the flow it rushed up with quite a roar, showing the volume behind it. Why not give the people the full benefit of this supply? The width of this flow is almost four
chains, which means delivering a huge quantity of water in the day. I shall be pleased to give any information to those who are interested. ‘ H. WEIR
