DEFENCE OF FARMERS DOMINION ALTERNATIVE POVERTY BAY ATTITUDE SUPPORT FOR PRESIDENT “We will have 4 o have a freedom station of our own if this sort of thing goes on much longer,” stated Mr. R. D. Dymock at a meeting of the Poverty Bay provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union yesterday, whan correspondence dealing with an attack on farmers stated to have been made by the controller of commercial broadcasting, Mr. C. G. Scrimgeour, was read. Circulars were before the meeting dealing with the matter and submitting copies of a statement broadcast by Mr. Scrimgeour and of an article appearing in the Labour Party’s paper one of the headings in an article being: “Farmers’ Union Claim to Speak for Farmers is Sheer Humbug and Hypocrisy.” Broadcast statements made by Mr. Scrimgeour had been replied to by the Dominion president, Mr. W, W. Mulholland, through the press, and the meeting fully supported the Do minion president in his protest.
'Mi'. (R. W. Coop urged that the controller of commercial broadcasting should not be given license io deal in such matters over the air and that any personal attack or such criticism of organisations should not be permitted. The meeting passed a motion appreciating the effort of the Dominion president and making it plain that the district members were strongly behind him.
