FALSE RUMOUR
SUGGESTED SINKING FATE OF ACHILLES BUENOS AIRES TALK DENIAL BY EMBASSY (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Dec. 14, 1.40 p.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 13. A message from Buenos Aires states that the British Embassy spokesman to-day said it could definitely he stated that there was no truth in reports that H.M.S. Achilles had been sunk. An earlier report dispatched by the Buenos Aires correspondent of the Associated Press of America had stated that the British authorities were unable to confirm a rumour that, the Achilles had been sunk. It was hinted that enemy sources were responsible for the rumour. A Monte Video message staled that British, German and Uruguayan offii ia's Ihore stated they had no information of a reported naval battle. 1 The officers of a Japanese steamer which passed through the area which was reported to be the scene of the battle saw or heard nothing of it.
