FRIESIAN BREEDERS
ELECTION OF COUNCIL NEW SYSTEM APPROVED (Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, this day. Members from Taranaki, Auckland, Canterbury and Otago were among those present at the general meeting of the New Zealand Friesian Association. Mr. It. S. Tait moved: “That the ward system of election of members of the council be instituted.” During a long discussion doubt was expressed whether a satisfactory ward system could be arranged. An amendment moved by Mr. G. H. Hassall, seconded by Mr. R. F. Dickie, that ihe council be asked to consider the question and present a report at the next annual meeting was carried.
Cups given by the association, which are to become the property of the winners, were presented by the president as follows: Champion Bull. —A. J. Rainey, Kaiapoi. Cow: J. ,T. Stott, Oamaru.
Grigg Jubilee Cup. Breeders’ Senior Group: J. Brown, Wainiwa. Twenty-eight new members were elected and 14 herd names were registered. At a subsequent meeting of the council the Friesian Association prize money for the 1939 derby was fixed at £SO. Mr. F. H. Hammond, Richmond, Nelson, was appointed the official judge. Messrs. J. J. Stott, Oamaru; McHnttie, Outram; D. 11, Kennedy, Windsor, and James Woodbridge. Auckland, were also appointed subject to their passing a practical judging test. A remit from the Canterbury branch stating that the conditions governing the official test should be altered to permit the use of bail releasors was approved and it was decided to seek the co-operation of the New Zealand Jersey Association in Bringing the matter before the director of the dairy division.
