The Messiah
Sir, —It is some considerable time since Gisborne was favoured with o performance oi' “The Messiah" and Mr. Birchnall, his soloists and choir are to be congratulated on the fine rendering of the work on Tuesday evening. The only element that was lacking was an orchestra, the colouring of which adds so very considerably to the success of this, and any of the oratorios. Seeing that we are now approaching the Centennial it is to be hoped that the local executive will be able to arrange for the retention of this choir with further augmentation and orchestral help for any special works for performance during that period. It was good to hear that versatile musician, Mr. Harre, sustaining the bass solos so inimitably; in fact the work of all the soloists was exceedingly well handled. MUSICUS.
