TOO MANY CHANGES

TEACHING STAFFS DETRIMENTAL EFFECT WAIROA EXPERIENCE (Special to tlie Herald.) WAIROA, this dav. Statements that it was unfair to the children, unfair to the parents, and detrimental to the work of the school, were made at the annual parday function at the Wairoa District High School yesterday, when reference was 'made to the constant changes in the school staff experienced here. The subject was broached bv the headmaster of the school, Mr. - E. E. C. Boyes, when reviewing the work during the past year. He stated that this year the school, as usual, had experienced a lot of staff changes, and the position at present was that out of a staff of 20 teachers there were only two who had been here more than three years. Six would be leaving this year. He added that these constant changes were detrimental to the school work. Mr. Boyes said he wished to record with regret the departure during the year of Miss Bain, Miss Scrimshaw and Mr. Isdale from Hie teaching staff. They had left their mark on die school and had done yeoman service. He hoped that next year would see more stability in the staff. Reference to the subject was made also by the Mayor of Wairoa, Mr. H. L Marker, who .stated that he wondered why the school committee and the parents put up with it. It should not be allowed. It was not fair to the children and it was not fair to ’lie parents, and as soon as something was done to rectify the position the better. Mr. E. L. Cullen. M.P., was also of the opinion that the constant change? hi the personnel of the staff were detrimental. They were not only unfair to the parents and the children, but they were also unfair to Wairoa.

Mr. Cullen added that he would bring the question to the notice of the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, and the Director of Education. Mr. N. T. Lambourne, at the irst opportunity.
