RUATORIA FAREWELL

SPORTS CLUBS’ FUNCTION POPULAR OFFICIAL (Herald Correspondent.) Prior to the commencement of the Ruatoria Tennis Club’s tournament last week-end a happy social event took place in the pavilion, when the opportunity was taken to farewell Mr. D. B. Haworth, who has been chairman of the club for several years and who left last Sunday for Auckland. The cricket and bowling clubs were also represented at the gathering. After a delicious morning tea, Mr. H. Poananga, on behalf of the club, presented Mr. Haworth with a fountain pen and referred to the great interest which he had taken in the club.

On behalf of the bowling club, Mr. J. W. Birch, in the absence of the president, Mr. P. G. Burton, presented Mr. Haworth with a writing ease and mentioned that he was a foundation member of the club. In expressing good wishes the speaker voiced the hope that !Mr. Haworth would visit Ruatoria in the course of his duties as an auditor of the Bank of New South Wales.
