PRICES OF PETROL
FIXED RATE SUGGESTED UNIFORMITY IN DOMINION A suggestion that petrol prices should foe fixed at a standard rate throughout New Zealand was made at the quarterly conference of the South Auckland Association of Country Chambers of Commerce in Hamilton, when Mr. W. Maingay, of Te Aroha, moved a remit on behalf of the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce. The remit stated that the present method of fixing the price of petrol penalised users outside the city areas. It asked the .Government to establish a price at a fixed rate throughout the Dominion. It was stated that the remit would mean a slight increase in city prices of petrol and a decrease in country prices.
Mr. G. G. Griffiths, Matamata, said with the burden placed on the country residents, encouragement t was not being given to farmers to devote more energies to increased production.
