“FIRST OPPORTUNITY”
AEROPLANE SERVICE CLAIMS OF GISBORNE STATEMENT BY MAYOR If one of the service aeroplanes can be released, Gisborne will have an air service at the first opportunity. This information was given to the Gisborne Borough Council last night by the Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., when he reported upon an interview he had with the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones. Replying to a question by Cr. H. E. Maude, who asked if any statement could be made regarding a request by Union Airways for a release from their lease of the aerodrome, Mr. Coleman said he had discussed the matter with the Minister, but no statement could be made on the matter yet.
Mr. Coleman added that he had taken the opportunity to ask the Minister if there were any prospects of an early resumption of the air service to Gisborne. The Minister had replied that all the planes were required by the department at present, but if he could do so a machine would be released for the Gisborne service at the first opportunity.
