POULTRY IN BOROUGH
CONGESTED AREAS ACTION BY COUNCIL Restrictions on the keeping of poultry in congested areas in the town were referred to at a meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council last night, when it was agreed to ask a resident to reduce the number of poultry kept in a closely-populated part. The inspection committee reported that a visit was made to premises in a claely-populated area where a large number of fowls were kept on a mcdorjtely-sized section. “Your committee does not wish to deprive any residents of the right to keep poultry,” the report stated, “but considers that where people desire to do so on a large scale they should obtain premises removed from the congested area, “In the case under review, it is recommended that the number of head be reduced to comply with the bylaws, and also that the houses which are attached to the side boundary fences be moved to the regulation distance, 6ft., these recommendations to be carried out within one month.” The committee also reported that premises in Disraeli street, licensed for the conduct of an offensive trade, were inspected, and no grounds for complaint were found. The licensee was complying strictly with the conditions of his license. The report was adopted.
