RIVER WATER TESTS
SUMMER CONDITIONS TREATMENT VARIED WAINGAKE LINE REPAIRS The pilot plant in connection with the Waipaoa' River water tests has been in operation practically daily during the past fortnight, stated the borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, at last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council. “With the continued dry weather,” Mr. Thomas added, “the condition of the river is reaching that which continues throughout the summer months, and the treatment of the water is being varied to meet these changing conditions.”
Mr. Thomas also reported that during the past week-end opportunity was taken to replace defective timber in the .pipe suspension structure over the Waingake Stream just below the settling tank. “As the 15in. diameter pipes in this crossing were showing advanced signs of deteroriation,” Mr. Thomas said, “they were replaced, approximately 100 ft. of new piping being installed. The town was kept supplied with water from the Taumata Hill reservoir during the dislocation of the main supply line.”
