TE KARAKA BROWNIES
TENTH BIRTHDAY DELIGHTFUL PARTY (Herald Correspondent.) On Saturday afternoon Mrs. H. Telford gave a "delightful party at “Ngaio,” Te Karaka, to celebrate the tenth birthday of the Te Karaka Brownie Pack] The guests numbered about fifty and, in addition to the Prownica, included the Te Karaka Guido Company, members of the Guide committee and friends The garden, gay with flowers, and with its wealth of shrubs and stretches of green lawn, made an ideal setting for the party. On arrival the adults enjoyed a stroll through the picturesque grounds, while the children were engaged in a competition hunt for hidden words, the winner of which proved to be Audrey Mills. A wonderful party tea was served on the lawn under some shady trees, the attractive birthday cake being cut by Fay Telford, a member of the Brownie Pack.
Mrs. J. G. Appletbn, ex-Guide commissioner for Te Karaka, conveyed birthday greetings to the Brownies from Mrs. L. Balfour, provincial commissioner, and Mrs J. G. Bray, Poverty Bay commissioner, and also expressed to Mrs. Telford deep appreciation of her hospitality. Entertaining items, including songs and poi dances, were cleverly rendered by members of the Guide company.
A generous supply of ices and strawberries and cream, and a sweets scramble brought to a close a birthday party that will be long an outstanding event in the memory of Te Karaka Brownies and Guides.
The adults present included Mesdames C. Graham, F. T. Fletcher, O. Scott, F. J. Howard, Cahill, P. Howard, J. G. Appleton, M. D. Manuel, F. Hobbs, J. D. Hodgson, J. McKenzie, H. Allan, B. McCauley, and T. L. Earnshaw; Misses M. Thornton, E. Hamilton, L. Ruru, V. Bull, S. Appleton, D. Tait, R. McCauley, and about 30 Guides and Brownies.
