ONE-MAN FACTORIES
CONTROL ADVOCATED LIMITATION OF HOURS APPEAL BY UNION (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. An Auckland union, members of which are engaged in an important manufacturing -industry, has made representations to- the Minister of Labour urging him to bring down legislation to prevent one-man factories working unlimited hours. The suggestion advanced for the Minister’s consideration is that legislation similar to that in New South Wales should be designed for New Zealand stipulating that an employer must not operate his factory before a specified time in the morning and must be off the premises at a set time in the evening unless a permit is secured -granting permission for overtime to be worked. It is thought by the union that this would meet the case of the one-man factory and would eliminate unfair competition by him with an employer who is compelled to observe the award.
In the industry concerned the employers are also interesting themselves in the matter and will probably approach the Minister, v.’ho has already promised consideration of the union's pToposal.
