Forced out of China
'Because of the anti-British pressure brought to bear on him, Mr. .J. Falls, an Aucklander, who has spent 42 years in China, has been forced to return to New Zealand. Until recently lie was stationed in Peiping. Interviewed in Auckland he said it Was no longer eomifontable for him to stay there, after his landlady line! been warned to put him out of the home he was renting. Frequently lie encountered bills on doorways stating “Down with the British,” and many British firms, which had had their hi all's driven from them, had no alternative but to close their doors. Even servants were being forbidden to serve in British homes.
