Last Night’s Forecast
General situation: Pressure has risen generally since yesterday and is now relatively high and steady over the Dominion.
Forecast: Winds, light to fresh westerlies to southerlies predominating at first but later tending more northwesterly. Seas: In New Zealand waters, slight on the East Coast, moderate on the West Coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light and variable winds and slight seas in the northern portion, elsewhere moderate to fresh westerly winds and moderate to rather rough seas. Weather: For the most part fair to fine and milder, but with occasional showers still probable in western and far southern districts of the South Island.
To-day’s North Island Report
The barometric pressure along tlie East Coast rose sharply overnight and this morning the pressure at Gisborne had reached a moderately high level. At 9 a.m. Gisborne and Tauranga were the warmest places along the coast with thermometer readings of 72 degrees. Other temperatures were: Castlepoint, 68 degrees; Opotiki and Napier, 64; .Wellington. 62; Auckland, 61. Light north-easterly breezes predominated and blue skies were reported at Cape Campbell. Cape Palliser, Castlepoint and Napier. Elsewhere conditions were cloudy to overcast, with intermittent rain at Auckland. There were slight to moderate seas at most points. Midday Forecast General Situation.—A weak anticyclone covers the Dominion, the highest pressure being east of the North Island. Forecast.—Light to moderate northeasterlies predominating. Weather fair and mild. Slight seas.
