PRESIDENT’S FOURS
GISBORNE ROWING CLUB SEMI-FINALS TO-NIGHT The semi-final stage in the President’s Fours series of the Gisborne Rowing Club was reached late yesterday afternoon, two further races being decided on the Taruheru River course. This afternoon J. Gemmell will meet A. M. Terry, and L. Easton will row S. Allen. A. M. Terry, str., R. Waler, R. Wilkins, and C. P. Perry beat T. Williams, str.. F. Henry, M. S. Burridge, and R. Ogolvie. In the first few strokes Williams took the lead, but Terry’s crew settled down and had established a lead of over a length at the Roebuck road bridge. Terry’s later comfortable lead was reduced to two lengths as a result of a challenge made by Williams in a final effort to take the lead. ~T. Gemmell, str., L. Franks. T. Moughan. and T. Bolton beat A. F. Allen, str.. G. Owen, A. Nicholls, and R. Taylor. The start was an even one and then Allen pulled away by half a length at Roebuck road. He had a lead of a length at' Carnarvon street, but by then Gemmell had his crew settled down 1o a nice swing and was on even terms at Derby street. In the last dozen strokes Gemmell took his boat to the front to win by half a length.
