“LEARN-TO-SWIM”

£IOOO FOR CAMPAIGN ADULTS TO BE TAUGHT The Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, informed the council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association at its annual meeting in Christchurch last week of his decision to make a further grant of £IOOO for the conduct of a “learn-to-swim” campaign this summer. This sum would be paid in five amounts of £2OO each, the first having already been made available. The purpose of the campaign will be the instruction of adults. The council decided to' use the same system of instruction as was adopted last summer. Unlike the procedure for the campaign then, the instruction of children will be left to the Education Department, but, to enable teachers to be trained for assisting their pupils at swimming, the council proposes to publish over 0000 copies of a pamphlet explaining the method of class instruction approved at a conference of the association’s educational officers held in Wellington in October.
