Lack of parental control over young people of both sexes in Blen.leim, was strongly commented upon by Senior-Sergeant Smyth in the Children's Court wnen 14 boys between die ages of 14 and 17 were dealt with on a series of charges of carnal knowledge of two girls under tne age of lb years. Subsequently, three older accused, aged 18 to 22, appeared to answer similar charges. One girl, aged 14, .vas named in 25 charges. Tne 14 ooys were committed to the care oi the Child Welfare Superintendent fo; periods ranging up to 80 months.

Maunsell, expressed amazement that such serious offences should have assumed sucn large proportions in a town the size of Blenheim. Lie reminded the boys what would be the ultimate result oi' such conduct. The offences could only end in a long term of imprisonment.
