GISBORNE COMPETITION XMAS ARRANGEMENTS DRAW FOR SATURDAY Because most of the teams would be short of players for December 23 on account of the Christmas season, it was decided to play no club , cricket matches on that date. This [decision was made yesterday afternoon at the weekly meeting of the management committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association. There were present Messrs. J. deV. W. Blathwavt, chairman, E. H. Ililham. P. H. Dow, G. A. Revel], C. Fraser, G. E. Slade, R. 11. Cook, A E. Bignnll, E. Judge, .and the hon. secretary. Air. D. A. Wells. Competition matches will cease oil December 1G and resume on January G. As a fresh series of games was to be started on December 1(1 in the Senior A Grade, permission was granted the teams to replace players in the second day's play on January G, advice being received that inconvenience would result if that was not the case. The secretary's action in making reservations for 12 players in Hamilton for the provincial cricket tournament at £3 5s a player was confirmed. Hawke Cup Challenge The list of Hawke Cup challenge matches for the season was provided by the New Zealand council, the dates being as follows: —Poverty Bay, New Year; Manawatu, January 27; Wanganui, late in February; one other to be arranged if practicable. It was resolved to transfer future Senior B Grade matches, set down to be played on the concrete wicket, to the Oval representative wicket commencing from next Saturday. Junior grade matches scheduled, to be played on the representative wicket would be transferred to the concrete wicket. Permission was granted the High School junior team to play in To Karaka on Saturday, the competition draw being arranged so that the school teams were drawn together this week so that the match could be played before the week-end. Two of the representative match balls donated by Mr. V. C. R. Mitford were allotted to Mr. P. C. Dwyer for use in the coaching of junior players on Saturday mornings. Saturday’s Games
Following is the draw for Saturday:— Senior B Grade. —United B v. Civil Service, Oval representative wicket; Gisborne Club v. Marist, Oval No. 1; High School B v. United A, High School bath wicket; High School A v. G.H.5.0.8. Blue, High School Rectory wicket; G.H.5.0.8. White, v. City. Oval No. 4.
Junior Grade.—High School A v. High School B, mid-week match; Marist v. Primary Schools, High School third bath wicket.
