MERCERS DO WELL

BIG STOCKS' IN HASTINGS

Whatever their future worries, Hastings dealers in men’s wear and mercery are “In clover’’ at the moment, according to merchants interviewed last week. Most of them are carrying particularly heavy stocks in preparation for Christmas, and with the fillip to trade given by the seasonal shopping, combined with the extra demands of intending visitors to the Centennial Exhibition, business has been very brisk during the past week.

"When the temporary rush is over and stocks are depleted, it is difficult to say what the position will be in view of the import restrictions, but for the present we have no need to worry about difficult hurdles until we come to them,” remarked one of the leading dealers.
