Last Night’s Forecast General Inference.—The situation is of a westerly type. An anticyclone is centred to the north and pressure is falling in the south, winds northeasterly at first along the Canterbury and Otago coasts, but otherwise moderate to strong winds between northwest and south-west prevailing and later reaching gale force in some exposed positions about and south of Cook Strait. Seas: Rough on the West Coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Fresh north-westerly winds, moderate seas in the northern portion and strong winds from a westerly quarter and rough seas in the southern portion. Weather: For the most part fair to fine at first, becoming unsettled, however, in Westland and the far south, with scattered rain developing. Temperatures: Mild to warm.

Blue skies were fairly general throughout tire North Island this morning, with light to moderate breezes from the west, though veering to north in places. The barometer _ was rising. Temperatures at 9 a.m, ’ were:—Auckland and Tauranga. 65 degrees; Opotiki, 53: East Cape. 63: Gisborne. 68; Napier, 69; Wellington, 63. Seas were smooth to moderate in the north and rough round Wellington. Midday Forecast r General situation: Pressure continues high In the north, but has fallen further in the south. Forecast: Light to moderate but freshening northerly winds. Weather: Fine and warm. Seas: Slight.
