MATCH RACE

CHAMPIONS TO MEET LUCKY JACK-LAWN DERBY P.y “Trenton” The offer of Mr. W. T. Lowe, owner of tlie New Zealand Cup winner. Lucky Jack, to make an attempt on the New Zealand mile record of lmin. 59 2-sseo. held by Lawn Derby, has been taken advantage of by ihe Canterbury Owners and Breeders' Association; bill it is likely to provide a great cleat more interest Ilian was /eally expected. The Owners and Breeders' Association, every ready to do something in Hie cause of charity, has suggested to the owners of Lucky Jack and Lawn Derby that the horses should meet in a match race over a flying mile. Both Mr. Lowe and Mr. W. J. O'Shea readily agreed to the proposal, and at Addington next Tuesday the two champions will meet. The proceeds of the matinee meeting will be given to the different orphanages of Christchurch. The match should create the greatest interest, for while Lawn Derby, lmin. 59 2-ssec., is the only horse in the Southern Hemisphere to do a mile in better than two minutes, Lucky Jack has twice won the New Zealand Cup, and almost equalled Ihe record of three wins in succession of Indianapolis, by finishing second on another occasion. With both horses at the top of their form, it'will not surprise to find another record established, for both are great pacers.
