MAORI BATTALION
FURTHER P.B. DRAFT OFFICERS AND NON-COMS NINE MEN FOR TRENTHAM GISBORNE AND THE COAST A further group of nine men has been selected by the Army Department from among the Maori volunteers now offering in the Gisborne district and on the East Coast for training for commissioned and noncommissioned rank in the special Maori Battalion, and will leave Gisborne for Trentham on Friday. The draft .will travel in company with a draft of European nominees for similar courses, which also leaves Gisborne on Friday. The names of those selected for the third Maori draft are as follows: — Tureia, Parckura, Lieutenant, Gisborne. Kaua, T., Tokom'aru Bay. Lardelli, J. 11., Gisborne. Tangahau, T., Tolaga Bay. Poutu, Wm., Hicks Bay. iMorete, U., Eehiri, Gisborne. Harrison, M., Waipiro Bay. Kopua, H., Tokomaru Bay. Kingi, J. P. R., Gisborne.
Preparations are being made by the Maori residents of the district to farewell the Maori Battalion draft in the same manner as those who went off during the past fortnight.
