TO-NIGHT’S BOXING

STERLING PROGRAMME LEADING PRO’S ENGAGED AUCKLAND AMATEURS Visiting professional and am'ateur boxers who are to take part in the Gisborne Boxing Association’s tournament arrived in town on Saturday evening, Vic Calstaux and tire -Auckland team of amateurs coming from the north and Jack Davis. Cal’taux’ Hastings opponent in the professional match, coining from the south. Caltaux and the Auckland amateurs gave a sparring display on the openair staging at the Waikanae Beach yesterday, much interest toeing shown in the performance by a large crowd of spectators. Caltaux appeared to be in great condition, and his weight at the ringside will be about l'Ost, Gib. Jaok Davis is a fe,w pounds lighter than when he last appeared in Gisborne, against Johnnie Foster, and he will enter the ring against Caltaux at a couple df pounds over the lOst. mark. Anticipations of a splendid contest between these busy and spectacular professional fighters seem to be fully justified. If Davis and Caltaux cannot satisfy the public, it would- be hard to secure a fight of greater promise. The amateur preliminaries arranged for the tournament also leave no room for criticism, and if all the boxers named -by the association keep their engagements, the fixture should leave Its mark on the history of the sport in the district.
