Last Night’s Forecast

General Inference: The situation has developed into one of a westerly type with New Zealand lying between a belt of high pressure to the north and one of low pressure to the south. Winds from a westerly quarter, moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force at times in some exposed positions south of Now Plymouth and Napier; seas, rather rough to rough on the West Coast, slight to moderate on the East Coast. Eastern Tasman Sea; Westerly winds moderate in the north with moderate seas, strong in the south with rough seas. Weather: Rather changeable in districts with a westerly aspect and in the far south, with occasional scattered showers, otherwise fair to fine. Temperatures: Moderate to mild. To-day’s North Island Report

Settled atmospheric conditions, and uniform temperatures, ranging between G 8 degrees at Gisborne and 61 at Tiritiri and Opotiki, were featured in to-day's reports from North Island stations. Winds were generally from the westerly quarter, tending to southerly, with the exception of East Cape, where light airs from the north were felt. Napier was the only centre which reported a fresh breeze. Blue skies, with passing clouds, were general, and visibility was good to excellent at all stations. Sea conditions were smooth to moderate everywhere along the eastern coast. Midday Forecast

General situation: An anticyclone is centred to the north and pressure is relatively low in the south.

Forecast: Light to fresh winds between south-west and north-west. Weather: Fine and warm. Seas: Slight.
