SUPPLY OF WOOL
AMERICAN IMPORTS AUSTRALIAN CLIP CRITICAL OPINIONS (Elio. Tel. Copyright—United Truss Assn. (Reed. Dec. 4, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 2. The Commerce Department announced yesterday that Britain was Immediately supplying 10,000,0001 b of Australian wool to United States importers with an indeterminate amount to follow. Payment will be demanded in dollars. The prices are not determined. Mr. Arthur Besse, chairman of the associated wool industry, said that ihe release of 10.000,0001 b of wool did not contribute to solving the problem. He said that the American mills were waiting to plan their 1940 production. The neutral reaction would be that they would buy as much as possible in other markets if they opened in preference to the restricted British market. It obviously would be impossible for American buyers to purchase from this “insignificent” release without knowing the quality and time of further releases. It would be more helpful to the United States market and Britain if the British would consult the interested parties and prepare a comprehensive programme for the disposal of wool.
