ROADS STILL BLOCKED
MARLBOROUGH FLOODS WATER NOW RECEDING (Pur Ptbss Association.) BLENHEIM, this day. The level of the Wairau River fell noticeably yesterday afternoon and last night, but road and rail communication with Picton is still blocked and only large cars can negotiate the south highway at Riverlands, where the water is still over the road for a considerable distance. The Nelson main highway is still affected by the Wakamarina River at Canvastown, the only route available to Nelson being via Tophouse. The flood waters in the Spring Creek and Tuamarina areas have receded, but many of the low-lying areas are still covered to a depth of several feet. With clearer weather in the back country and a cessation of the rain in the districts near Blenheim there is every indication that the worst of the flooding is over.
