SCHOOL CLUBS

FIELD DAY AT MOTU EXCELLENT PET LAMBS BETTER THAN LAST YEAR (Herald Correspoudent.) The Motu School's live stock club held its annual field day at the school on Tuesday, when a large number of parents and friends assembled, indicating increased public interest. Nine calves and 13 pet lambs were paraded. The stock exhibits were judged by Mr. F. R. Bould, stock inspector, and Mr. C. G. Calvert, school agricultural instructor, judged the garden plots and the children’s club note books. Mr. Bould gave a demonstration on how to recognise good dairy type in calves, and congratulated the children on their display, saving that, although Hie calves were hardly up to the standard of last year, the lambs were particularly good, and ho hoped that it would be possible to have the two best displayed in Gisborne on December 13. The ladies provided morning tea in the school-room. On behalf of the children, the club leader. Margaret Fisher, thanked Messrs. Calvert and Bould for their services. The chairman of the school committee, Mr. Donaldson, also thanked the visitors and the ladies for their assistance. Certificates of merit were awarded to those children who did not receive a prize, and these will be presented at the school picnic on December 13. Results of the judging were as follows: — .
