THE WEATHER
Last Night’s Forecast General Situation: An extensive depression is moving on to the Dominion from the west, the lowest pressures being in the south, winds northeasterly still prevailing in the North Island and northerly to north-west-erly from Cook Strait southwards, moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in places, seas, moderate south of Kaikoura and inshore north of Kawhia, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong northerly winds and rough seas, winds inter tending westerly in the southern portion, Weather: Unsettled in western districts and in the north and south, with rain at times, some further heavy falls probable in and west of the Southern Alps with the Canterbury and West Coast rivers in flood, fair to cloudy conditions predominating in eastern districts, but some light scattered showers extending at times to these areas also, mild temperatures.
To-day’s North Island Report
Overcast conditions still prevailed in most parts of the North Island this morning, when fresh to strong northerly winds were general. The barometer was steady. Temperatures at 9 a.m. were: Auckland, (12 degrees; Tauranga, <l4; Qpotiki, 68; East Cape, 62; Gisborne, 64; Napier, 64; Wellington, 59. Seas were moderate to rough everywhere except at Gisborne.
Midday Forecast
General situation.—A complex depression lies over the centre of the Dominion, 'but pressure remains very high to the east. Forecast. —Moderate to strong northerly winds. Cloudy and unsettled, with scattered rain. Seas moderate.
