AUSTRALIAN BOXERS
PROPOSED VISIT TO N.Z. Tile visit to New Zealand by a team of Australian amateur boxers, which was to have been one of boxing’s contributions to the centennial sports attractions, may eventuate about next March. Recen't communications with the Amateur Wrestling and Boxing Union of Australia by the New Zealand Boxing Council have finally elicited a response which explains the position. It is slated that the outbreak of war upset the arrangements for a series of trials to discover Australian representatives for the Olympic Games at Helsinki, and that, in such circumstances, it was naturally difficult to select and assemble a team for New Zealand. It is hoped, however, that it will be possible to select the boxers early in the New Year, so that a team may be sent to the Dominion in ■March. The New Zealand council has considered the reply from Australia, but; in view of the prevailing uncertainty, has decided to give no guarantee in the meantime that the tour wall eventuate. If it transpires that there is an urgent call for men for the armed forces, then the boxing lour will be abandoned.
