Mrs. C. C. Scanned. Tokomaru Bay. is the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. U. Burke. Northcote road.
Mrs. M. Lawless, Ormond road, is leaving on Saturday for Dannevirke and later will visit the Centennial Exhibition in Wellington.
Miss Rona Trent, Avonside, Christchurch, has arrived at Wellington on a short visit. She will return home later in the week accompanied by her sister, Mrs. L. Sherrifl', Gisborne.
Mrs. Robert Laid law has returned to Auckland from a visit abroad. Mrs. Laidiaw spent three months in the United States, two months in England and one month on the Continent. She reached England from the Continental trip just a few days prior to the declaration of war.
Miss Lorna Mann, who left Christchurch for England last year, has enlisted in the Women’s Army Territorial Service and is at present stationed at Staffordshire. At the depot where she works there are three companies, comprising 180 women workers.
Farewell Party
Mah-jongg was enjoyed by the guests at the small charmingly arranged party given by Mrs. W. E. Maude at the home of her mother, Mrs. A. E. Orr, Stout street, on Monday night for Miss Patsy Crawford, who is making her future home in Tauranga.
Roses, lupins and antirrhinums were artistically combined in the decoration of the drawing-room, and the supper table in the dining-room was beautified with a shallow bowl of pansies. The hostess was gracefully Locked in Dresden blue deque, and Miss Crawford wore a becoming frock of black georgette designed with a yoke of matching lace. Jolly Five O’clock Party
The delightfully informal 5 o’clock party given by Mrs. W. A. .Bowie and Mrs. G. I. Parker at the home ol' the former in Kaiti esplanade for Mrs. R. G. Crawford afforded a number of friends a pleasant opportunity of farewelling the chief guest. Bowls of roses and sweet peas in fuchsia tunings were advantageously placed in the drawing-room, and refreshments and savories were served from a flower-decked table. M ,- s. Bowie was smart i* l a Lock of black deque accented with gold emoi'oideries. and a becoming irock oi black French crepe, cut on simple lines was worn by Mrs. Parker.
Mrs. Crawford wore a graceful frock of navy blue and white printed crepe romaine.
Miscellaneous Gift Party
On Tuesday afternoon Miss Evelyn Lister, next Saturday's bride, was the chief guest at a delightful tea given by Miss Ivy Moss in Le Grand Cafe.
The decorations were artistically carried out with sweet peas and roses, intermingled with delicate greenery.
After lea the inviting-looking parcels, containing a varied assortment of pretty and useful gilts, were opened by the bride-to-be, assisted by her hostess. Miss Moss was smartly frocked in Marina blue sheer with fuchsia trimmings, and a frock of pastel triple crepe ornamented with pearl buttons was worn by Miss Lister. Among the guests were Mesdames J. Montauerto (Napier). D. File, and G. Dunbar: Misses B. Hill (Tauranga), Radford (Tasmania). M. Calcler, -I. Barker, E. Mitchell. D. Dwyer and C. Rolston.
Gift Party for Bride-Elect
A delightful "green kitchen" party was given recently by .Mrs. D. Campbell and her daughter, Miss Joan Campbell, at their home in Stout street for Miss Nora Peyton, whose marriage to Mr. R. Wilson will take place on Saturday.
Shaded roses filled the drawingroom with fragrance, and in the dining-room, where supper was served, a bowl c-f sweet peas was used with artistic effect.in the decoration of the charmingly arranged table. A diverting competition was enjoyed by the guests, and the winner, Mrs. A. Mclvor, was rewarded with an attractive gift.
A wonderful array of kitchen utensils was presented to the bride-to-ibe, who thanked her friends,in a happy manner. -Mrs. Campbell was wearing a graceful frock of beige crepe I'.nnaine printed in a floral design in coni moling shades of green.
uVliss Campbell looked smart in a simply cut frock of glade green clocpie, and the ch:cl -guest wore a becoming frock of henna sheer with gold accents.
