DAVIS V. CALTAUX ACTIVE PROFESSIONALS VISITING AMATEURS Supporters of boxing in Gisborne are looking forward to one of the 11 nest tournaments in recent seasons when Jack Davis and Vic Caltaux! professional fighters, provide the principal attraction in the Opera House on Monday evening for the Gisborne Boxing Association. The professionals are active in their ring work, and both have foimht here before. Davis will be making his fourth Gisborne appearance as a professional, having given satisfaction each time. Since his last Gisborne fight he has beaten Les Adams. Ashburton, Baker, Invercargill, and Maync Morion, whom he knocked out for the second time in ,Morton’s home town, Petone, on Saturday night. Caltaux' one previous bout bore was with Clarrie Marshall, whom hi defeated by the short route The Aucklander carries a devastating Dunch, and during the past two years he has had twice as many fights as the next busiest professional j n the New Zealand ring. No more thorough endorsement of his popularity could be quoted. In his last two contests, both with Les Sloanc, Australia he won by a knock-out in seven rounds! and lost a points decision to the overseas visitor.

Among the amateur preliminaries to the Caltaux-Davis match, the bout between D. Heeney and W. Little Auckland, promises to be exceptionally Interesting. Little is Auckland's welter champion, and at the national title tournament in Invercargill was deieated oy Heeney by a narrow margin, after one of the finest fights seen at the national fixture this year. This was one of only two defeats suffered by Little since he took up boxing, and he is keen to even the score with Heeney The other Aucklanders billed to appear at the tournament, in competition with local amateurs, arc all champions or near-champions in their province. Tom Batv and R. Had wen, Gisborne, are both of championship calibre, and their respective matches with Aucklanders should be worth seeing.
