A special correspondent of the Times at Riga says that an authoritative Berlin statement explains that the German policy in Poland is twofold. It is aimed firstly at the reduction of the Poles to subservience and secondly at the promotion of German prosperity.
“Collaboration with the Poles,” it declares, “must not even be attempted, nor must any idea of equal rights for Germans and Poles be entertained for a moment. If a German peasant and a Polish magnate are neighbours, the peasant's clear duty is to show that he is above the magnate. “Socially Isolated”
“The Poles must everywhere be segregated and socially isolated.”
A message from Amsterdam states that despite the censorship, news of the formation of the Polish Legion has spread throughout Poland. Masses are being secretly celebrated for its success.
General Sikorski is the national hero on whom all hopes centre. The Polish free corps continues a guerilla campaign against Germans and Russians.
