COMMUNISTS WARNED
SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITIES MINISTERS OUTSPOKEN RAIL.WAYMEN'S PLEDGE (Pur Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. A warning to Communists who spread propaganda with a view to undermining the work of the Government was given by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, and the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, addressing a crowded meeting of employees of the Otahuhu workshops during ihc luncheon hour to-day.
At ihe conclusion of the meeting a resolution was carried expressing appreciation of the services of the Ministers and stating: "While we have no desire to restrict the liberties of individuals provided they are exercised in the proper sphere, we are aware of the fact that there is a disturbing element in the ranks of this community whose activities are detrimental to the Government and the British Empire. Wc pledge ourselves, therefore, to assist the Government whole-heartedly in the task of standing behind Great Britain and the Allies in the fight against the enemies of democracy and other promoters of Hitlerism and aggression.”
