POLICY ENDORSED
EXCHANGE CONTROL
IMPORT RESTRICTIONS
INVERCARGILL SUPPORT
(Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, this day
A claim that the Government had instituted exchange control and import restrictions only after careful consideration of other methods of meeting the reduction of sterling exchange, was made by Mr. A. 11. Nordmeyer, M.P.. in an address last night. He claimed the policy was sensible and expressed the hope that it would continue.
There was an attendance of about 300. The meeting carried the following resolution: “Recognising the best interests of the Dominion demand that New Zealand should live within its means, this meeting of citizens pledges to support loyally the measures taken to improve the economic welfare of the country.
“It further recognises the fact that war inevitably means disorganisation of trade and industry and that the present situation calls for the cooperation and goodwill of all citizens to support the policy of increased production and expansion of industry within the Dominion as the only means by which New Zealand can make a valuable war contribution to Britain.”
