SEED CERTIFICATION

GISBORNE’S 236 ACRES FIRST UNDER NEW PLAN 'Applications for certification of perennial ryegrass seed under the new scheme adopted by the Department of Agriculture total 230 acres in the Gisborne district, thiis comprising areas eligible for certification as pedigree and mother seed. In addition, application has been made for the certification of 15 acres, of 'Montgomery Red clover. 'ln the past, from 800 to 1000 acres o'f ryegrass seed were certified to under field inspection,' while with later certifications under laboratory test the area ranged up to about 8000 acres, but the new scheme has had the effect qf reducing the areas certified to under the field inspection method. Increased ,areas, however, are expected to be available for certification ns permanent pasture seed under the laboratory test method.
