MORE BABIES IN ENGLAND
LONDON, Oct. 1. Two hundred and twenty-two more live births were registered in England and Wales in the quarter ended July 1, than in the corresponding quarter of 1938.
Deaths, <>n the other hand, were 1245 more, but 33,725 fewer than in the preceding quarter. Actual figures for the period were: Births, 104,401; deaths, 120,433.
